On Thursday, the 8th of September Prime minister inaugurated the Kartavaya path and unveiled a statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Kartavya path formerly known as Rajpath and unveiled a statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at India gate.

The statue is 28 feet in tall in size, and made up of a granite monolith, meaning it is carved from a single stone weighing 280 metric tons, the monolith was brought from Telangana and carved into the statue in about two months.

The government has claimed the redevelopment and renaming of the Rajpath to the Kartavaya path represents the change of the landmark from a symbol of power(Rajpath) to a symbol of public ownership and empowerment(Kartavya path).

The Kartavaya path runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the India gate and is made up of beautiful red granite walkways with vegetation all around, renovated canals, food stalls with foods from different states as well vending kiosks and different utility blocks.

During the inauguration of the Kartavya path, Prime minister Modi said that we are being liberated from the compulsion of using a foreign language, as various laws in the country are being changed.

Some changes were made during the reconstruction of the Kartavya path for a better experience for the visitors.

The entire stretch from India Gate to Vijay Chowk which is 1.8 Km has been revamped by Shapoorji pallonji and Company Limited. The project was bid at 477 crores.

Five vending zones have been established by the CPWD with a maximum of 40 vendors in each zone, as well as near the India gate two blocks have been set up for 8 stores each. Several states have expressed their interest in setting up food stalls.

The office of the Prime minister has given a statement stating that the infrastructure of the central avenue is in a poor state at best plus during big events such as Republic day the movement of the public is severely limited because some of the ministries are not located in Central Vista.

There was even a lack of basic necessities such as drinking water, parking spaces, and places for sitting down. The redevelopment project has kept these concerns in mind while also keeping the integrity and continuity of the architectural characteristics of the structure.

The redevelopment would greatly improve the public experience with the help of new pedestrian passes, better parking spaces, and upgraded lighting. More than 400 benches, 150 dustbins, and more than 650 new signages.

One hundred and one acres of lawns have been planted with a wide variety of grasses and in the parts where the congestion was a problem four new underpasses have been constructed.

According to the relevant government bodies the amenity blocks and underpasses have ramps and rails at proper heights so that children and people with special needs can use them safely.

The revamping of the stretch would also help streamline the preparation of the events like Republic day, the preparations of the sitting arrangement of the public and officials would become much more efficient. It is also imagined that the traffic situation around the area would also benefit greatly from the redevelopment.

Prime minister Narendra Modi has said that he would invite the workers who worked on the project for the Republic Day parade, and also that the country’s youth is starting to be free from the obsession with the foreign language with the adoption of the new laws and policies.

The Kartavya path is the beginning of something bigger.

The project is a controversial one with a difference of opinion between different organizations and people from different places, The project does however seem to have an overall positive effect over a long time frame.

Plus the symbolic meaning of the project is a fight against the essence of the colonial presence in the country even after 75 years of independence in the form of names from the colonial era of Indian history.

The reconstruction of the Kartavya path is part of a massive redevelopment of Central vista with an estimated cost of about 2.7 billion dollars. The Redevelopment of Central Vista is an ambitious plan to completely rebuild the administrative center of the Indian democracy.

Not wearing a seatbelt can be the difference between life and death for you, as it was for Tata sons former chairman Cyrus Mistry

On September 4th we lost one of the most promising business leaders, a man with a mission, and the Former Tata sons chairman Cyrus Mistry in a car crash. There were four people in the car at the time of the crash of whom two passed away, Cyrus Mistry, and Jahangir Binshah Pandole. Both of them were sitting on the rear seats. The other two who were injured are identified as the managing director and CEO of JM Financial private equity Darius Pundole, and a top doctor at Breach Candy Hospital Anahita Pandole. Both are undergoing treatment.

Cyrus Mistry was in a Mercedes GLC, the car has a safety rating of 5 star and has 7 airbags but still the crash proved fatal but, why?

It has been reported that both Cyrus Mistry and Jahangir Pandole were not wearing seatbelt at the time of crash. Which was one of the primary reasons for the crash being fatal along with error in judgement etc. Even though the car had 7 airbags, not wearing a seatbelt is what ultimately was fatal.

When a vehicle is traveling it has some kinetic energy which is transferred to the passengers of the vehicle, and as a result during the crash a person can feel upwards of 40 G force. To put it into perspective it is 10 times what astronauts feel when going to the moon.

The airbags in the vehicle are designed to absorb this force during a crash, in order to minimise the damage to the passengers in the car. But the airbags are only effective as long as the person is wearing a seatbelt properly.

What happens when a person is not wearing a seatbelt during a car crash.

When a person gets in a car crash without wearing a seatbelt, the car suddenly stops but the person still keeps moving inside the car and as a result he/she is launched at the windshield.

The kinetic energy of the car is then transferred into the person, and if the car is going over 30km/h the kinetic energy is enough to break bones, severely injure or even kill the person.

The force of 40 G would make a person weighing 80 kg launch towards the windshield with a weight of 3200 Kgs. If the person is on the back seat he would be launched at the person in the front seat with a good chance of it being fatal for both people.

What happens when a person is wearing a seatbelt during a car crash.

During the crash if the person is wearing a seat belt he/she would remain in his place as the airbags deploy, and the airbags then would absorb the kinetic energy of the car which could otherwise prove fatal to the person.

The main goal of seat belts is to protect the person traveling in case of a collision, during a collision. Seat belts keep you place, when the airbags are deployed the person is able to use them to cushion himself from the impact.

WHO(World health organization) has said according to the research, wearing a seatbelt for the person on the front seats reduces the chance of death and serious injury by almost 45%, and by almost 25% for the person sitting on the rear seats.

What are the safest cars during an accident?

The safest car during an accident of two cars is the bigger car, but if we are talking about car crashing into dividers, and other things,

Then the cars that can dissipate the kinetic energy of the car fastest before it reaches the passengers are safer. The electric cars in this regard are best as they do not have an engine in the front, so it can be specially designed to crumble in a way that protects its passengers.

Cars designed by Tesla are the best in this regard, on top of that most Tesla cars have battery packs at the bottom that gives them a low center of gravity, saving them from rolling over during a crash.

So electric cars are good for both the environment and the person driving them.

But the electric cars would make virtually zero difference if you do not follow road safety rules and regulations, and Wear your seatbelts properly

To learn about what Niti Ayog is doing to help increase the ease of using electric modes of transportation.
