Aster DM Healthcare Drives the Future of Surgery with Rapid Expansion of Robotic-Assisted Procedures Across India

Aster DM Healthcare, one of India’s largest healthcare providers, is rapidly advancing the future of surgical care in India, driven by the widespread adoption of robotic-assisted surgery across its network of hospitals.

Surgeons at Aster DM Healthcare utilise next-generation robotic systems to deliver safer, faster and more precise surgical outcomes

Within Aster’s India network—including Aster Medcity, Aster Whitefield, Aster RV, Aster CMI and others—robotic-assisted surgery is used across urology, oncology, gynaecology and orthopaedics, while expanding into liver and kidney transplants and neurosurgery. With 1,900 robotic surgeries last year and 1,300 already this fiscal, growth is strong. Supported by Da Vinci and SSI Mantra platforms, Aster ensures equitable, high-quality, precision-led care across metro and non-metro locations in India today and beyond.

Prof. Dr. Somashekar, Chairman – Medical Advisory Board, Aster DM Healthcare (GCC & India) and Global Director – Aster International Institute of Oncology, said, “Robotic-assisted surgery represents one of the most meaningful advancements in modern healthcare, not just for its precision but for the dignity and comfort it restores to patients. At Aster, we have paired cutting-edge robotic platforms with strong clinical training to ensure these technologies truly elevate patient outcomes. The future of surgery lies in this balance — where innovation enhances the surgeon’s capability while compassionate care remains at the heart of every decision.

A recent milestone underscoring this commitment was Kerala’s first robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass surgery, performed at Aster Medcity. The procedure, paired with the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol, resulted in smaller incisions, faster recovery, minimal scarring, and a reduced risk of post-operative complications—demonstrating the transformative impact of robotics in high-end cardiac care.

As Aster continues to integrate robotics responsibly and compassionately across its hospitals, the organisation is shaping a new era of surgical excellence—one where cutting-edge innovation meets empathetic, patient-centric care.

Bringing this to Dallas is both an honour and a responsibility I carry with commitment. Each dish speaks of tradition, each service reflects care, and each visit is built to leave a lasting connection. I believe in working with people who see the purpose behind every detail, and Jashan is guided by this belief, bringing India’s kitchens to a place where guests can find a piece of that familiarity and memory on the table” says Mr. Prasanna Singaraju, Founder, Jashan.

Rhenus shared Commitment to Support India's Maritime Sector at India Maritime Week 2025

  • Rhenus signed an MoU with Inland Waterways Authority Of India (IWAI) to enable cargo movement across National Waterways, during the biennial maritime event.

  • The participation in the event underscored the company’s commitment to contribute to the India logistics landscape

Rhenus exchanged an MoU with Inland Waterways Authority Of India (IWAI) for the construction and operation of tug-barge vessels to enable cargo movement across National Waterways NW-1, NW-2, NW-16, and the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol (IBP) route. Vivek Arya, CEO of Rhenus India also shared his insights on logistics as a panelist in a conference discussion session. These were among the highlights in the India Maritime Week 2025’s participation.

Held in late October 2025, the India Maritime Week was a biennial global maritime event which brought together leaders from the maritime industry, governments, innovators, investors, and stakeholders from over 100 countries. It was hosted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and organized by the Indian Ports Association (IPA).

The MoU with IWAI will see Rhenus India operate barge services on various local routes, gradually expanding to other national waterways. A combination of pushers and barges, suited for low-draft navigation, will transport Bulk and Break-Bulk cargo across North & East India, North-East India, and eventually to neighbouring countries. With 1,000 vessels operating daily on European waterways, Rhenus will leverage its Port Logistics expertise and European Waterways fleet to support India’s Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector.

Vivek Arya, CEO of Rhenus India, was also a panelist, discussing the topic of “Reviving Veins of Inland Trade“. Hosted by the Inland Waterways Authority Of India (IWAI), the discussions explored strategies to revitalize riverine logistics, integrate inland routes into national supply chains, and promote environment friendly cargo movement. The discussion revolved around India’s inland waterways emerging as a game-changer in the country’s transport and logistics landscape. With government initiatives like Sagarmala and Jal Marg Vikas Project driving infrastructure development, waterways offer a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional modes of transport.

Rhenus India also showcased their services with a dedicated booth in the exhibition hall, during the conference days.

Tobias Bartz, CEO of the Rhenus Group, “Waterways are becoming one of India’s most important drivers of trade and regional transformation. Strengthening the Inland Water Transport network is a long-term opportunity for the country – and a strategic priority for us as Rhenus. Our collaboration with IWAI reflects our commitment to developing efficient, scalable and sustainable transport corridors that connect regions, industries and communities across the subcontinent.”

Vivek Arya said, “India’s maritime sector is on a transformative journey, with port capacity doubling, cargo volumes surging, and inland waterways emerging as a green, efficient alternative. As the future of logistics in India looks to be multimodal and sustainable, Rhenus is proud to be part of this movement enabling smarter, cleaner, and more connected supply chains across India.

Since its founding in 1912, Rhenus has built its legacy in inland navigation along the Rhine, evolving into a global logistics provider with strengths in barge shipping, warehousing, road, rail, air, and ocean freight.

Billroth Hospitals Launches Institute of Robotic Surgery to Deliver High-Precision, Cost-Effective Care

  • Robot-assisted surgery will be offered across oncology, gastrointestinal, urology, thoracic, gynaecology and complex general surgery specialties

  • The hospital will use the advanced SSi Mantra system, featuring modular robotic arms and high-definition 3D imaging for enhanced surgical precision

Billroth Hospitals, one of the city’s leading multispeciality centres and a pioneer in advanced laparoscopic and laser procedures, has launched its Institute of Robotic Surgery, marking a major expansion of its minimally invasive surgical capabilities. The facility will use the SSi Mantra 3, an India-made next-generation surgical robot designed by SS Innovations, to perform a wide range of procedures with greater precision and improved patient outcomes.

Billroth Hospitals Launches Institute of Robotic Surgery to Deliver High-Precision, Cost-Effective Care

The robotic platform will be deployed across oncology, gastrointestinal surgery, urology, thoracic surgery, gynaecology and complex general surgery. The SSi Mantra 3 will also support intricate operations involving the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, biliary system, intestines, rectum, anal canal and urological organs such as the kidney, ureter, bladder and prostate. It will further aid minimally invasive interventions for reproductive tract conditions, retroperitoneal tumours and tumours of the chest.

The hospital said that the system will enhance its capabilities in performing complex hernia repairs, bile duct exploration, diaphragmatic repair, hiatus hernia fundoplication, metabolic and bariatric surgery, hysterectomy and tubal reimplantation. High-end procedures such as liver transplantation and cardiac bypass are also expected to benefit from the dexterity and stability offered by the robotic arms.

The SSi Mantra 3 features 3 to 5 fully modular robotic arms and supports more than 40 robotic endo-surgical instruments, enabling surgeons to tailor the setup to each operation. Its open-face console includes a 32-inch 3D 4K display, ergonomic controls and head-tracking safety, offering enhanced visual clarity and steadier control during long or complex surgeries.

In his comments, Dr. Rajesh Jeganathan, Chairman, Billroth Hospitals said, “We are pleased to launch a centre of excellence for robot-assisted surgery. Our goal is to democratise minimally invasive care by making it accessible and affordable for our patients. Those who require laparoscopic procedures should consider robotic surgery, as both follow the same minimally invasive principles. With a robot-assisted approach, even complex operations can be performed more safely, with faster recovery and shorter hospital stays – ultimately reducing overall treatment costs. This is especially beneficial for cancer patients who need intricate resections or long surgical hours. The minimally invasive technique also enables patients to get out of bed the very next day, significantly supporting quicker recovery.

He further added that robotic technology significantly enhances surgical precision. Unlike conventional open surgery, robotic systems provide a highly magnified, 10x enlarged 4K 3D view that offers exceptional clarity while preserving the depth perception of open procedures. The stable robotic platform minimises unintended hand movements, enabling greater accuracy and reducing blood loss. With a range of motion that exceeds natural human limits, the robotic arms can bend and rotate to access difficult-to-reach areas with ease. Importantly, surgeons operate from an ergonomically designed console, which reduces fatigue and allows for steadier control during long or complex surgeries.
