Hardik Nanda Ignites Nationwide Dialogue on Mental Health and Ethical Reality TV – A Movement to Reform, Not Cancel | #RealityCheckIndia

Seven years after stepping into the national spotlight on MTV Roadies, Hardik Nanda returns-not as a contestant, but as a catalyst for change. At 26, he’s launching a bold, youth-led campaign to spotlight the urgent need for ethical reform in Indian reality television, placing mental health and human dignity at the center of the conversation.

Hardik Nanda X MTV Roadies Contestant

In 2018, Nanda auditioned for MTV Roadies at just 19 years old, openly sharing his mental health journey and submitting professional documentation to verify he was fit to participate. What followed was not support, but exploitation. Today, he’s speaking out-not for retribution, but to demand better standards in how reality shows treat vulnerability.

Through his public statement and a growing Change.org petition, Hardik is calling for a radical shift in how reality television operates. He urges producers and networks to adopt trauma-aware casting, implement mental health protocols, and ensure transparent editing practices that honor the truth of participants’ lives-not distort them for ratings.

I’m not asking the industry to shut down reality shows,” says Hardik. “I’m asking them to grow up. If we can’t prioritize people over plot twists, we’re failing the very audience we claim to represent.

A pivotal moment in Hardik’s journey came during his appearance on MTV Dropout Pvt. Ltd., where he experienced the kind of compassionate engagement that was missing from MTV Roadies. That experience became the foundation for his movement: ensuring no young person is ever emotionally ambushed in the name of entertainment again.

His campaign, launched under the banner #RealityCheckIndia, has already gained momentum, with support pouring in from psychologists, educators, ex-contestants, digital creators, and hundreds of young people who’ve faced similar experiences with exploitative formats.

To every young dreamer stepping into an audition room-remember, your story is powerful. Don’t give it to people who don’t respect it,” says Nanda.

The campaign calls on broadcasters, production houses, and OTT platforms to reflect on the true cost of viral content-and to step into a new era of ethical entertainment where truth isn’t twisted, and trauma isn’t commodified.

Join the conversation www.instagram.com/hardiknanda.xyz/#

and sign the petition www.change.org/ShutdownMTVRoadies, and demand accountability. It’s not just reality TV anymore-it’s a reality check.

Reviving Haircare Rituals with Shankara’s Brahmi Bhringraj Taila

Managing hair health amidst busy schedules, rising stress levels, and changing weather can be challenging. Hair fall, thinning, and early greying have become common concerns for many. Responding to this growing need for mindful hair care, Shankara introduces Brahmi Bhringraj Taila – a hair oil created to support stronger roots, scalp nourishment, and consistent self-care.

Shankara launches Brahmi Bhringraj Taila

Hair oiling has been a regular part of Indian self-care practices for generations. Drawing from these long-standing traditions, the formulation brings together time-tested ingredients to meet the needs of modern lifestyles.

Shankara’s Brahmi Bhringraj Taila is made with 100% natural ingredients and is suitable for all hair types, including coloured hair. At the core of the oil is Bhringraj, often referred to as the “king of herbs” for hair. Known for strengthening roots and supporting hair growth, it also helps reduce breakage and delays early greying by preserving the hair’s natural pigment. Brahmi works to calm the scalp and improve circulation, while Coconut Oil and Sesame Oil provide deep nourishment and hydration, helping to maintain a healthy scalp environment.

The oil is handcrafted using the Taila Pak Vidhi – a slow, traditional method of heating that helps retain the full potency of each ingredient. Whether your hair is dry, oily, damaged, or colour-treated, this oil is designed to support consistent care and long-term hair health.

Astha Katpitia, Head of Shankara India, shares, “For generations, oiling has been a trusted way to care for hair. With Shankara’s Brahmi Bhringraj Taila, we bring this practice back in a meaningful way, blending time-tested ingredients, potent botanicals and oils to strengthen hair, support growth, and make everyday haircare more mindful.”

Shankara’s Brahmi Bhringraj Taila is now available across platforms. Priced at INR 650 for 100 ml.

World Premiere of ‘RISE: Symphony No. 1 in D Minor’ – Composed by Ganesh B. Kumar

A Major Milestone for Indian Compose Ganesh B. Kumar
Indian composer Ganesh B. Kumar is set to achieve a remarkable milestone as his orchestral work RISE: Symphony No. 1 in D minor receives its World Premiere in Ceremonial Hall, Pesti Vigado, Budapest, Hungary on Sunday, 27 April 2025 at 19:30 hrs. The concert, to be held at the iconic Ceremonial Hall of Pesti Vigado, will be conducted by renowned Maestro Anthony Armore from Vienna and performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, as part of a prestigious line-up featuring works by Beethoven, Ravel, Brahms, and celebrated contemporary composers Mark John McEncroe (Australia) and Franck Dansaert (France).

World Premiere of Rise: Symphony No. 1 in D Minor – Composed by Ganesh B. Kumar

To see RISE take its place among such timeless and contemporary works is beyond humbling. It’s a moment of deep gratitude and quiet fulfillment for me and my team,” Ganesh B. Kumar.

The Origins of “RISE
RISE – Symphony No.1 in D minor, was composed in 2018 and recorded on 2nd & 3rd of July 2019 in Halle, Germany, as part of his album “Spirit of Humanity” with the Staatskapelle Halle Orchestra, under the baton of Bernd Ruf. The album was released globally in 2020 by Navona Records, the classical imprint of PARMA Recordings (USA). The timing of its release was particularly significant, as 2020 marked the 250th birth anniversary of the legendary composer Ludwig van Beethoven – the very soul to whom this symphony pays homage. (For further details, please visit: www.navonarecords.com/catalog).

Following the classical three-movement Symphonic structure (Fast – Slow – Fast), each movement reflects a phase in Beethoven’s artistic and personal journey:

  1. Arrival of the Legend (Allegro con brio) Sonata Form

  2. Introspection (Andante) Sonata Form

  3. Undisputed Numero Uno (Allegro con moto) Sonata Rondo Form

The world premiere was originally slated for July 2020 in Europe. But it had to be postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Its long-awaited debut in April 2025 now carries a deeply symbolic resonance – echoing the very essence of the symphony itself: the triumph of rising after enduring a prolonged pause.

A Legacy of Belief and Support
Ganesh expresses profound thanks to his patron and steadfast supporter, Mr. Anand Madhavan, whose belief in the composer’s vision, was instrumental in transforming RISE from manuscript to reality,
This symphony would have remained just ink on paper if not for the kindness and conviction of Mr. Anand Madhavan. His support and commitment to the arts, continues a legacy of literary patronage – as his great-grandfather Shri V. Krishnaswami Iyer (founder of Indian Bank and the Madras Sanskrit College), was among the first to bring the immortal verses of poet Subramania Bharati to the world, ensuring they reached the hands of young aspiring students across different schools. The same spirit of nurturing creativity lives on through him today.

Acknowledging The Pillars of The Project
The composer extends his heartfelt gratitude to his core team members who stand as unwavering pillars of support:

  • V. Muthukumaraguruswamy (Late) – Chief Linguistic Consultant and Spiritual Guide

  • Dr. Prem Venkatesh Ram Mohan (United Kingdom) – Project Lead

  • Georgina Margarite Ezra – Song writer, Translator and Linguistic Trainer

Ganesh Kumar remains ever grateful to his teacher, Mr. Abdul Sattar, who laid the foundation for his journey in Western Classical music and under whose guidance he pursued his advanced studies.

With deep emotion, Ganesh also remembers his parents, Shri K. Balakrishnan and Smt. T. Sundari, who gave him everything they had and whose unconditional love and sacrifices made this journey possible.

About The Composer
Ganesh B. Kumar, L.T.C.L., is a music composer and producer based in Chennai, India. He holds a Double Licentiate (Practical & Theory) from the Trinity College of Music, London. In his early years, he collaborated with numerous renowned figures, notably working with the legendary filmmaker Padmashri K. Balachander, a recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour in cinema.

Kumar made his Hollywood debut with the score for the film 9 Lives of Mara. His contribution earned him recognition as a credited Hollywood composer, and the score went on to win the Best Music Soundtrack Award (2008) at the Tabloid Witch Awards Festival in Santa Monica, California.

Kumars exceptional contributions to music were further acknowledged in 2010 when, Trinity College of Music, London, honored him with a special felicitation for his outstanding achievements in both classical and contemporary music.

One of Kumars most remarkable accomplishments occurred in 2015 when he composed the first large-scale choral a cappella work in Tamil, featuring the spiritual masterpiece “Shanmuga Kavacham,” written by Srimath Pamban Swamigal in 1891. This work had its world premiere by the Chamber Choir of Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany, in a concert titled “Mantra meets Classic,” conducted by the esteemed Nicol Matt. Following the premiere, a recording of “Shanmuga Kavacham,” along with other mantras presented during the concert, was produced. The album was subsequently released by Hnssler Classic GmbH.

The 2020 album Spirit of Humanity, which also features the Symphony RISE, marked a historic milestone as Kumar became, the first Indian composer to create a Symphonic Poem-THE JOURNEY-honouring the life of Maharaj Jam Saheb Digvijay Singh (fondly named Indian Oskar Schindler). This work highlights Kumar’s exceptional ability to convey profound narratives through the language of music.

Prithibir Gaari Ta Thamao: Alumni of Jadavpur University Mumbai to Stage Salil Chowdhury Centennial Tribute on May 10, 2025

The Mumbai Chapter of the Alumni Association, N.C.E. Bengal and Jadavpur University, one of India’s oldest and most vibrant alumni bodies, is set to host a grand cultural event celebrating the centennial of legendary composer, poet, and visionary Salil Chowdhury. Titled Prithibir Gaadi Ta Thamao, this special tribute will bring together artists, musicians, and admirers from across Mumbai for an evening of live performances on May 10, 2025, at the Maratha Sahitya Mandir Auditorium in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, honouring Chowdhury’s enduring legacy and timeless contributions to Indian music and culture.

https://www.newsvoir.com/images/article/image1/31689_JU_imageperformers.jpg

Participants of the Prithibir Gaari Ta Thamao Project rehearsing in Mumbai

More than a stage show, this vibrant project is a journey through Salil Chowdhury’s life and legacy-told through storytelling, songs, poems, visuals, and rare video interviews with his family and associates from India and abroad. Over the past 10 weeks, more than 20 artists and musicians have been passionately preparing for this unique tribute under the banner of Jadavpur Alumni, Mumbai. While the narration will be in Bengali, the performances will feature a rich tapestry of Bengali, Hindi, and Malayalam songs, reflecting the multilingual brilliance of Chowdhury’s musical journey.

Salil Chowdhurys Bengali song “Prithibir Gaadi Ta Thamao” (পৃথিবীর à¦-াড়িটা থামাঔ) translates to “Stop the Train of the World” or, more poetically, “Halt the Journey of the Earth.” At its core, the song is a poetic and poignant plea -an appeal to pause the relentless pace of the world and reflect on the suffering, injustice, and chaos that often go unnoticed in the rush of life. It captures Salil Chowdhury’s deep social consciousness and empathy for the marginalised and oppressed. The lyrics, filled with symbolic imagery, talk about a world moving too fast, indifferent to pain and inequality. Chowdhury believed there is an urgent need to stop, take stock, and notice the cries of the voiceless. Thus, this masterpiece critiques blind progress at the cost of humanity and compassion.

Salil Chowdhury (19 November 1925 – 5 September 1995) was renowned for blending Indian classical traditions with Western harmonies and folk elements. Chowdhurys work transcended linguistic and regional boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on music, cinema, and literature.

Commenting on the event, Dibyendu Chakraborty, Jadavpur University Mumbai Alumni and former Alumni Association President, said, “As we mark the 100th year of Salil Chowdhury, this project is much more than a tribute. It is a heartfelt journey through the life of a visionary whose music transcended language, region, and era. It serves as a poignant reminder that his melodies, rich with emotion and meaning, still have the power to connect people across time and space, resonating as deeply today as they did decades ago.”

Those interested in attending the event can register or find more details by visiting: www.juaam.com/event_detail/31.

The Jadavpur University Alumni Association Mumbai branch has been organising various cultural events over the years. In March 2010, it organised Heritage of Indian Classical Music at Rabindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. Featuring the performance of doyen Hindustani classical music Late Ustad Rashid Khan, the program aimed to foster connections among the general public and alumni while promoting the rich legacy of Indian classical music. Evoking the nostalgia of Jadavpur Universitys annual cultural events, where music once filled the air into the early hours, the evening was a heartfelt attempt to revive those cherished memories within the vibrant yet stressful pace of Mumbai life.

The Mumbai Branch of the Alumni Association of N.C.E Bengal and Jadavpur University was established in 1956 to provide an umbrella for alumni to meet, interact, and socialise. In the years that followed, the objective was expanded to include knowledge sharing and charitable activities to benefit society as a whole. More than 350 active members in the Mumbai branch are connected to various core and knowledge-based industries, professional organisations, and Government agencies.

Jadavpur University, Kolkata, is one of India’s most prestigious public research institutions. It is renowned for its academic excellence, progressive ethos, and commitment to intellectual freedom. Established in 1955, the University traces its origins to the National Council of Education (NCE), which was founded in 1906 as part of India’s Swadeshi movement to promote indigenous education. Over the decades, it has evolved into a globally recognised centre for higher learning, research, and innovation, consistently ranking among the country’s top universities.

In 1921, former students of the university initiated a movement to establish the National Council of Education Alumni Association (NCE Alumni Association). When the university moved to its present campus in 1924, the NCE Alumni Association moved along. The Association celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, marking a significant milestone for its alumni around the globe.

We believe that the realization of digital health transformation hinges on the widespread adoption of digital technologies by healthcare organizations nationwide. It was the pivotal platform to catalyze and fortify the regional ecosystem, ultimately leading to a nationwide metamorphosis of Digital Health. We meticulously prepared the summit to be captivated by an exceptional lineup of global leaders. Our esteemed speakers represented the pinnacle of healthcare excellence, bringing invaluable insights and experiences to the forefront of innovation. From visionary CEOs/CIOs to distinguished C-suite executives, each speaker was a trailblazer in their respective fields, poised to inspire and enlighten attendees with their expertise.

Left to Right: Fr. Isidore D’Souza, VP, RUPCHA, Arvind Kumar, DG, STPI, Dr RS Sharma, Former CEO, NHA, A Robert J Ravi, CMD, BSNL, Dr. DK Gupta, Felix Hospital, Shashi Dharan, Bharat Exhibitions

After the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, Mr. Shashi Dharan, MD, Bharat Exhibitions in his welcome speech said, “Digital health is not merely a concept; it is a catalyst for positive change. AI will replace doctors and teachers within a decade. From telemedicine bridging the gap in access to healthcare, to wearable devices empowering individuals to monitor their well-being, to artificial intelligence assisting in diagnosis and treatment-we are part of a movement that is redefining healthcare. India highlights its strides in digital health through initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which has created over 76 crore health accounts and linked 52 crore health records.”

Chief Guest, Dr. R.S. Sharma, Former CEO, National Health Authority (NHA) gave an inspiring speech. He was heard quoting, “The National Health Authority (NHA) is at the forefront of Indias digital health transformation. It oversees initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which aims to create a unified digital health ecosystem. Authentication in digital health is crucial for ensuring secure access to sensitive health data and maintaining patient privacy. It involves verifying the identity of users, such as patients, healthcare providers, and administrators, before granting access to digital health systems like electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine platforms, and mobile health apps. Innovative technologies like block chain are being used to enhance authentication in digital health. Our country is now hyper connected, so it’s fantastic for implementation purposes now. 2.4 billion records are now with us with the CoWin platform. He also added that AI helps create tailored treatment for each individual making healthcare precisive.”

Guest of Honour, Shri A. Robert J. Ravi, Chairman & Managing Director, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in his speech said, “BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) plays a vital role in advancing digital health in India by providing robust connectivity solutions. Through initiatives like BharatNet, BSNL extends high-speed internet to rural areas, enabling telemedicine, e-health services, and online education. For example, BSNLs fiber network has connected over 30,000 Gram Panchayats, improving access to healthcare and other digital services. AI based healthcare systems are transparent, unbiased and ethically designed fostering healthcare solutions. AIs role in mental health support is growing, with virtual therapists providing accessible emotional care. It even assists in global health initiatives, addressing challenges like disease prevention and healthcare accessibility. BSNLs integration of AI in healthcare has the potential to revolutionize access to quality medical services across India.”

Dr. D. K. Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, Felix Hospital said. “Telemedicine and digital health are transforming healthcare by making it more accessible, efficient, and personalized. Telemedicine allows patients to consult doctors remotely, reducing the need for physical visits and bridging gaps in healthcare access, especially in rural or underserved areas. It encompasses virtual consultations, remote monitoring, and even AI-driven diagnostics. Patients will visit hospitals only for emergencies, rest everything will be at their door step, this is the future we are all looking ahead.”

Speaking during the Summit, Shri Arvind Kumar, Director General, Software Technology Parks of India was heard quoting, “The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) plays a significant role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in digital health. It supports startups through initiatives like the Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS), which provides funding, mentorship, and resources to health-tech startups. For example, STPIs MedTech Center of Excellence (CoE) has launched programs to empower startups working on healthcare technologies. We are investing hugely in startups and targeting a tenfold increase in GDP and unless we are not good at health, it all becomes vain. Same is the case in national health of the country. We need to capitalize on the evolving technology and applications for securing future healthcare in India.

Rev. Fr. Isidore D’Souza, Vice President, RUPCHA & Director, Nazareth Hospital Allahabad said in his speech, “Today, we are at the crossroads of healthcare and technology-a meeting point that has never been more crucial. Digital health is not just an innovation; it is a revolution. Its about empowering patients through wearable devices, enabling doctors with AI-driven diagnostics, and strengthening public health with data-driven strategies. However, as exciting as these advancements are, challenges remain-ethical concerns, accessibility gaps, and the adaptation to new systems. Together, we can ensure digital health becomes an inclusive tool that delivers care efficiently, ethically, and equitably. Let’s make this transformation one that truly benefits humanity.”

In her special address, Dr. Upasana Arora, Managing Director, Yashoda Super Specialty Hospitals, GZB said, “Digital health and the human touch are two sides of the same coin in modern healthcare. While technology like AI, telemedicine, and wearable devices enhances efficiency and accessibility, the human touch ensures empathy, trust, and emotional support remains integral to patient care. Go digital but let there be love, care, support which makes healthcare more and more humane“.
